Introduction
The NSS Technical Cell, Units 147 and 261 of the College of Engineering Trivandrum, functioning under the Directorate of Technical Education, is dedicated to promoting social responsibility and community service among students. Guided by the motto “Not Me But You,” the unit focuses on fostering overall personality development through meaningful community engagement.
Through diverse initiatives such as blood donation drives, environmental campaigns, legal awareness sessions, and village surveys, the unit encourages students to actively contribute to society. NSS volunteers also participate in palliative care programmes, organise charity exhibitions, and conduct educational support activities for underprivileged children.
By nurturing compassion, leadership, and social awareness, the NSS unit transforms education into a holistic experience that seamlessly integrates learning with service and social responsibility.
NSS CET Panels
NSS CET operates through five active panels, each dedicated to a specific area of social commitment and student development:

Blood Panel
The Blood Panel of NSS Technical Cell, plays a pivotal role in promoting humanitarian values through its consistent efforts in organizing blood donation and health-related activities. The panel is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing all blood donation initiatives under the unit. Recognized as one of the leading institutional blood donor groups in Kerala, it stands as a model of community service and compassion.
The volunteers work with dedication to ensure that every event is conducted efficiently and effectively. They also take proactive steps to create awareness among students and staff about the importance of voluntary blood donation. By nurturing a culture of empathy, responsibility, and service, the panel continues to inspire many to contribute selflessly to the welfare of society.
In collaboration with hospitals and medical organizations, the panel ensures a steady and safe supply of blood for those in need. Its efforts exemplify the NSS motto “Not Me But You” in action. In addition to organizing donation drives, the panel actively promotes health awareness and preventive care both within and beyond the campus.
Major Activities Undertaken
- Oppam Blood Donation Camp:
Monthly blood donation drives organised in collaboration with hospitals such as RCC Trivandrum, witnessing enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members. - Lifestyle Awareness Session (as
part of NSS Day):
A life skills interactive session was conducted on 24 September 2025 to promote awareness about student health and stress management. The session, guided by Aishwarya Ma’am, Deon Sir, and Gayathri Ma’am, focused on the importance of maintaining both physical and mental well-being. - Medical Camp:
A free medical check-up camp was organised on 24 September 2025 in collaboration with the Integrated Family Health Centre, Pangappara, and held at the Mechanical Lobby from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The camp aimed to promote health awareness and early diagnosis among students, faculty, and staff. - Blood Donor Record Maintenance:
Regular updating and maintenance of donor databases to ensure quick accessibility and coordination during emergency situations.

SIP Panel (Students in Palliative Care)
The SIP (Students in Palliative Care) Panel is a dedicated division under the NSS Technical Cell, Units 147 and 261 of CET, committed to promoting awareness and fostering compassion towards palliative care. The panel strives to sensitise students to the importance of emotional support and holistic care for individuals facing life-limiting illnesses.
Through outreach programmes, awareness campaigns, and volunteer initiatives, SIP aims to nurture empathy, social responsibility, and a spirit of active participation in community well-being. By engaging with vulnerable sections of society, the panel helps students develop emotional intelligence and a deeper understanding of human values.
Major Activities Undertaken
- Old Age Home Visits:
Regular visits to old-age homes, where volunteers spend quality time with the elderly, offering companionship, emotional support, and comfort. - Baalika Bhavan and Baala Bhavan Visits:
Visits to children’s orphanages, during which volunteers engage with children through fun activities, games, and educational sessions, spreading happiness and care. - Scrap Collection Drive & One Rupee Challenge:
Fundraising initiatives involving the collection and sale of recyclable materials, along with voluntary small donations through the One Rupee Challenge. The funds raised are utilized to support the dialysis treatment of kidney patients, extending a helping hand to those in need.

NRPF Panel (National Resource Protection Force)
The NRPF (National Resource Protection Force) is an active and vibrant panel under the NSS Technical Cell, Units 147 and 261 of CET, dedicated to the conservation and sustainable management of natural resources. The panel strives to cultivate environmental awareness and responsibility among students through practical, hands-on initiatives that promote sustainability, resource protection, and eco-friendly living.
By encouraging every volunteer to take meaningful steps toward a greener and more sustainable future, NRPF integrates environmental stewardship with social responsibility, ensuring that students not only learn but also lead by example in protecting nature.
Major Activities Undertaken
- Svopna Kood:
A scrap collection initiative through which recyclable materials are gathered and sold to raise funds for constructing homes for the underprivileged — combining environmental protection with social welfare. - Samrakshithi:
A flagship project wherein the panel adopts a natural resource area to ensure its protection, maintenance, and restoration under the stewardship of NRPF volunteers. - Thanal:
A thoughtful initiative that promotes a personal connection with nature, where each member plants a tree on their birthday, symbolising growth, renewal, and environmental responsibility. - Treetag:
A digital environmental project involving the geo-tagging of trees to monitor their growth, health, and long-term preservation through technology. - Aviyal:
An agricultural initiative focused on cultivating vegetables and promoting sustainable farming practices within the campus and local community.

Education and Road Safety Panel
The Education and Road Safety Panel is an active and socially committed division under the NSS Technical Cell, Units 147 and 261 of CET. The panel is dedicated to spreading awareness on education, road safety, and responsible citizenship among students and the general public. Its activities aim to build a culture of awareness, accountability, and civic discipline while empowering individuals to make informed decisions that ensure safety and well-being for all.
The panel’s initiatives are designed not only to educate people about the importance of road safety but also to instil values of empathy, self-discipline, and social responsibility. By organising awareness programmes, outreach campaigns, and behavioural change activities, the panel contributes significantly to community development and the holistic growth of students as responsible citizens and future professionals.
Major Activities Undertaken
- Awareness Classes:
Conducted a series of interactive awareness sessions and workshops on critical topics such as road safety, traffic regulations, the dangers of drunk and distracted driving, and substance abuse prevention. These sessions, held both within the campus and in nearby institutions, helped participants understand the real-life consequences of negligence on the road and emphasised safe and responsible practices. - Educational Outreach
Programmes:
Organised outreach sessions in schools and colleges focusing on value-based education, moral responsibility, and personal safety. Special emphasis was given to career guidance, time management, and developing responsible citizenship among students. The panel also collaborated with external experts, including local police officers and transport department officials, to deliver impactful sessions. - Campaigns and Rallies:
Hosted several awareness drives, poster campaigns, and street plays to spread messages on traffic rules, safe driving habits, and the harmful effects of reckless driving, drug use, and alcohol consumption. Volunteers actively participated in public awareness rallies held in and around Trivandrum city in coordination with local authorities, promoting the theme “Safety Starts with Me.” - Road Safety Week
Observance:
As part of National Road Safety Week, the panel conducted a week-long series of activities including quiz competitions, poster-making contests, and interactive discussions with the Motor Vehicle Department, creating an engaging platform for students to express their ideas on road safety. - Collaboration with Law
Enforcement:
The panel partnered with Sreekaryam Police Station and other local agencies to conduct live demonstrations on traffic regulations and accident prevention techniques, ensuring real-world exposure for students.
Through these sustained efforts, the Education and Road Safety Panel has succeeded in creating a strong impact both on campus and in nearby communities, reinforcing the idea that education and safety are collective responsibilities essential for a progressive society.

Energy Panel
The Energy Panel is one of the most proactive divisions under the NSS Technical Cell, Units 147 and 261 of CET. It is committed to promoting energy conservation, sustainability, and responsible resource utilisation. The panel’s activities focus on spreading awareness about efficient energy practices and the importance of adopting renewable and green energy technologies.
By engaging students in experiential learning and community-based initiatives, the Energy Panel nurtures a culture of energy consciousness both within the campus and in neighbouring communities. Its initiatives align with the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDG-7: Affordable and Clean Energy) and foster environmental stewardship among future engineers.
Major Activities Undertaken
- Energy Saving Awareness
Sessions:
Conducted interactive classes and demonstrations to educate students, faculty, and the public about energy conservation techniques, efficient power usage, and sustainable lifestyle practices. These sessions also highlighted the economic and environmental impact of responsible energy management. - Promotion of Green
Energy:
Organised awareness campaigns and live demonstrations showcasing renewable energy technologies such as solar panels and wind turbines. Students were encouraged to explore eco-friendly alternatives for domestic and institutional energy needs. - Workshops and Student
Projects:
Hosted hands-on workshops and competitions focusing on innovative energy solutions, sustainable design, and renewable energy research. Student-driven mini-projects were developed on topics such as solar-powered lighting and energy-efficient classroom design. - Energy Auditing:
Performed detailed energy audits across various departments within CET and at volunteers’ residences. These audits monitored energy consumption patterns, identified wastage, and recommended practical steps for improving energy efficiency. The reports were submitted to the institution’s Green Campus Committee for further implementation. - Green Campus
Initiative:
Supported CET’s vision of becoming a “Model Green Campus” by promoting LED lighting, waste segregation, and the installation of solar-powered equipment in selected areas of the campus.
Programme Panel
The Programme Panel is an enthusiastic and dynamic team under the NSS Technical Cell, Units 147 and 261 of CET. It is responsible for conceptualising, planning, and executing a wide range of programmes aimed at enhancing teamwork, creativity, and cultural expression among students. The panel ensures that NSS activities remain vibrant, engaging, and inclusive, thereby fostering a sense of community and belonging.
Through its events, the panel provides students with opportunities to showcase their talents, build interpersonal skills, and develop organisational abilities—qualities essential for leadership and professional growth.

- Cultural Night Events:
Organised thematic cultural evenings featuring music, dance, drama, and short skits that celebrate diversity and creativity. These events served as platforms for volunteers to express their talents and build confidence. - Fun and Interactive
Programmes:
Conducted games, quizzes, art contests, and team-building workshops that encouraged participation and strengthened bonds among volunteers. These activities also enhanced coordination and collaborative learning. - Event Management and
Logistics:
Successfully managed logistics, scheduling, and coordination for numerous NSS and institutional events. The panel’s meticulous planning ensured the smooth execution of flagship programmes such as NSS Day celebrations, blood donation camps, and environmental awareness rallies. - Volunteer Development
Activities:
Conducted ice-breaking sessions, orientation programmes, and leadership-building workshops for new volunteers, helping them understand the ethos of NSS and fostering enthusiasm for community service.
Media Panel
The Media Panel is a creative and dynamic wing under the NSS Technical Cell, Units 147 and 261 of CET, entrusted with managing the organisation’s visual identity, digital presence, and public relations. It plays a vital role in documenting, promoting, and disseminating the achievements of NSS CET across various media platforms.
By effectively utilising photography, videography, and digital design, the panel ensures that the message of service and social responsibility reaches a wider audience. It also trains students in digital communication, graphic design, and content creation—skills that enhance both personal and professional development.

- Social Media
Management:
Maintained and regularly updated all official NSS CET social media handles, posting event announcements, highlights, and awareness content. The panel successfully increased engagement and visibility of NSS initiatives among students and the public. - Publicity and Outreach:
Designed and distributed posters, newsletters, and online campaigns to publicise NSS events and social drives. These efforts helped in attracting volunteers and expanding public participation in community initiatives. - Filming, Photography,
and Video Editing:
Captured key moments from NSS activities through professional-quality photography and videography. Edited and produced highlight videos and short documentaries for institutional use and public dissemination. - Graphic and Content
Design:
Created infographics, brochures, digital flyers, and visual stories that effectively communicated NSS messages and promoted upcoming events. - Documentation and
Archiving:
Maintained a digital archive of photos, videos, and press coverage of all NSS activities to support annual reports, accreditation documentation, and institutional record-keeping.
Finance Panel
The Finance Panel is a crucial administrative and support wing under the NSS Technical Cell, Units 147 and 261 of CET. It is responsible for managing all financial operations of NSS, ensuring transparency, accountability, and effective utilisation of funds. The panel works closely with Programme Officers to plan budgets, monitor expenditures, and prepare periodic reports for review.
Its efforts ensure that every activity—from small outreach programmes to major institutional events—is executed smoothly without financial constraints, reflecting the financial discipline and integrity expected in a national service organisation.

- Financial Planning:
Estimated and allocated budgets for various NSS events, workshops, and projects to ensure smooth execution. Pre-event financial assessments were conducted to ensure optimum fund utilisation. - Expense Tracking and
Record Maintenance:
Maintained meticulous records of all financial transactions, including bills, receipts, and vouchers, in accordance with NSS guidelines. All expenditures were reviewed and verified for accuracy and compliance. - Fund Management:
Monitored the allocation and disbursement of funds for all panels, ensuring timely availability of resources. The panel also facilitated reimbursements, settlements, and financial reporting for audit purposes. - Reporting and
Accountability:
Prepared periodic financial summaries and year-end reports for submission to the NSS Technical Cell and the Directorate of Technical Education. These reports promoted financial transparency and served as evidence of prudent resource management. - Resource Mobilisation:
